Hart Of England Competition

Ethan, Oliver, Madeline and Rosie competed at the Heart of England event in Worcester on Sunday. Well done to all our fencers, especially Madeline and Oliver our novice U10s, who both valiantly battled their way through two rounds of poules and DEs. First time for Oliver to compete away from home ground and he was met with very tough opposition, he fought hard in his DE with a respectable score of 6-10! Madeline improved after each bout in her poules, and won her first DE 10-4 which was fantastic!

Ethan was in the U17 and did fairly well in the poules to seed in 8th place, however lost his first round in the DE by a tiny margin. While it may not have gone as expected, it is a good learning experience that Ethan can work on and come back stronger and better.

Rosie was in the U14 and won all her bouts in her poules, this put her in a very good position in the DEs. She swiftly went though her DEs, showing no quarter to her opponent in the semifinal, and made it into the finals. It was another nail biting affair which saw Rosie initially leading with 8-5 but against a very tough and seasoned opponent, who rallied hard to end up beating Rosie 12-8.

All our fencers ended their DEs with very respectable scores and which is very encouraging, with time, experience and training they will all continue to improve in competitions.

Results:

U10 Madeline – 7th

Oliver – 12th

U14 Rosie – Silver

U17 Ethan - 17th
