Club Director and Head Coach
Provides strategic leadership for Cambridge Sword, leading the coaching programme, shaping the club’s future and ensuring every member has the opportunity to thrive.

Archie Broughton
Assistant Head Coach, Fencer Development and Equipment Manager
Leads the development of Cambridge Sword’s beginner programmes and progression pathways, supports fencers as they progress through the club, oversees competition planning, and manages the club’s equipment and armoury.
Emily Lucas
Operations Manager
Leads the day-to-day operation of Cambridge Sword, overseeing member services, club administration, policies and procedures, and playing a key role in the planning, promotion and delivery of the club’s county and national competitions.

Carina Liew
Club Secretary
A fencer parent and our friendly Club Secretary since 2022, Carina is the go-to person for membership, club information and all things competition-related, from beginners to advanced and age categories. She also advises on equipment and its maintenance, and is an England Fencing Representative Officer who can help with England Fencing queries. Matt Billing
Senior Fencing Coach
Delivers coaching across Cambridge Sword’s club programmes, working closely with Archie to develop our fencer progression pathway and helping fencers build their technical skills, tactical understanding and competitive confidence.
Mark Baker
Fencing Coach
An experienced coach delivering after-school fencing programmes and individual lessons, specialising in building confidence, developing a strong repertoire of skills and helping fencers achieve their potential.
Owen Birch
Coach
Owen started fencing at Lancaster University in 2014 and has been competing and coaching ever since. He holds a Level 3 coaching qualification in foil and Level 2 in sabre, and is head coach at Bury St Edmunds Fencing Club. He has won medals at opens, placed fifth at the three-weapon Malta Open Championship, and won the BUCS Northern Conference Cup with Lancaster’s men’s first team.
