7-8 June EYC Results

At the weekend of 7-8 June, Madeline, Olivier, Victoria, Daniel and Rosie competed at the England Youth Championships in Hatfield. Second largest competition of the year, all our fencers did extremely well against very experienced and stiff competition.

Madeline the youngest of the group competed in the U11 alongside Victoria. She drew a tough poule that included the eventual silver and bronze medallists (both of whom have been competing in U10 this year). She fought really hard winning two bouts out of six. She ended up drawn against a much taller and stronger opponent in her DE, and while she got a few good hits in, it wasn't quite enough to win through.

Victoria is in the upper age limit for the U11 and fenced well to win four bouts in her poules. She won one round of DE by a point and was knocked out in the next round by a more experienced fencer.

Daniel and Olivier both competed in the U13 age category, both doing well in the poules, Daniel won all his bouts and Olivier winning three out of five. Our two fencers successfully went through two rounds of DEs, only to meet each other in T16. A DE which coach Bob could only look on and provide no coaching for fairness, it was Olivier who edged to win a place in T8, but was unable to progress further.

Lastly we had Rosie in the U13 competing solo on the Sunday. She won all her bouts in her poules and for the first time in a national championship that she was first seed going to DEs. She dominated her DE run up to T8 but it was not a lucky day for Rosie and she lost by 2 points for a place in the quarter- finals.

All our fencers worked very hard and for Madeline and Victoria both must be commended on their courage to enter a large event and to come out fighting and smiling! Well done everyone! Another experience to learn from and improve upon! Go Cambridge Sword! Lastly special thanks to Bob for supporting our fencers!
