CS fencers medal run at Hitchin Autumn Tournament

30 November - Hertfordshire County Tournament hosted by Hitchin Fencing Club saw four of our fencers compete in each age category. novice fencer Grace R was in U9, Madeline P in U11, Xander C in U13 and Rose R in U15. Very interesting format saw the U9 fence with U11 in mixed poules and U13 fence with U15 in their mixed poules. First bout for Grace was against Madeline which was a close match, with the win going to Madeline who dominated the poules. Grace did well to win three of her bouts and spent most of the time in between snacking and making new friends while waiting. U9 and U11 had separate DEs and Madeline powered through to win Gold! Grace in the U9, steadily made her way up to tableau to also make the finals. With coach Freddie M, she fenced as hard as she could, lost by three points and was more elated by winning a DE than the fact that she made the finals!

In the mixed U13/U15 poules, Xander fenced Rose in the poules beating her 5-1, and entering the Direct Eliminations as no.1 seed! The Direct Eliminations continued as a U13/U15 mixed affair, unusual but both our CS fencers battled it out in the tableaux and quickly rose up to meet each other in the finals. Lots of spectators for this final which was a tense affair, Xander had renewed confidence after his poule win, while Rose had to reassess her strategies. Rose emerged as the eventual winner and Xander fought valiantly all the way through.

Fantastic fencing from our fencers who all medalled in their respective age categories! Special thanks to our coach Freddie for his calm and encouraging piste side support!
